Perhaps, though imperialism by nature is more autonomous than individualistic (at least in theory). I don’t think think that autonomy is really a stated goal of capitalism, especially the “bigger, faster, stronger, always” sort of mentality that Chouinard seems to have a problem with. It does seem true though that he (and I, for that matter) take issue with an attitude, not an economic system. Imperialism is at its root a mindset.
